2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The goal of this project is to have a great souding car without being intrusive to the factory design. This car was built for speed and now it is going to have an awesome souding system to cruise with.

The Equipment

Entry 1 - 5/4/09

Today we took began work on the Mustang. The door, interior and trunk panels were removed. We began design work on the doors. This car will have a three way speaker system in the doors. This includes JL Audio ZR800 8" mid-bass drivers, JL Audio C5-650 6.5" component mid-range drivers with .75" silk dome tweeters in the A-pillars. The 8" driver will be in the lower door where the factory woofers were located. The mid-range driver will be in the upper door location where the factory mid's were. The tweeters are being cut into the A-pillars. There in no separate location for factory tweeters. Pods are being built in the door to house the mid-range drivers because there will be a mid-bass driver in the same door, we are seperating the 6.5" speaker from the 8" speaker.

Entry 2 - 5/5/09

The pods are dry and the speakers are being test fit inside them. The trunk is being layed out for the amplifier rack. The tweeters are being cut into the pillars.

Entry 3 - 5/6/09

The door mount for the 8" mid bass drivers was made today. We are using the factory opening in the door panel to mount the speaker, but will need to build out a trim ring to mount the woofer and to mount the grille. The door pods for the mid-range drivers were completed and the hushmat on the front doors was applied.

Entry 4 - 5/7/09

The mid-range drivers are mounted in the doors. The door panels are on to test fit. The trim ring for the 8's will be painted and texture coated. The wiring for the amplifiers is being worked on today and should be finished. The factory crossover points of the Audiocontrol 2XS did not meet the needs of our system, so we found the resistors needed and soldered our own chip onto the circuit board of the unit. Now we will be able to tune the 8" mid-bass drivers the way we would like.

Entry 5 - 5/8/09

Today we primed the door trim rings and texture coated them for the midbass drivers. The amp wiring was completed. The microphone for bluetooth was mounted and the wiring in dash was completed for the head unit. Rear speakers were mounted and connected.

Entry 6 - 5/9/09

Today we are finishing the install and getting ready to tune it. The car should be ready to be delivered by Monday morning. The interior is coming back together. The door panels are done. The Alpine IVA-W505 is in the dash and working. The dash has not been reassembled because it still needs to be tuned.

Entry 7 - 5/11/09

We finished the mustang today! The Alpine IVA-W505 was completed in the dash. Final wiring adjustments were made. We tuned the car with an Real Time Analyzer and set amplifer gains and crossover points accordingly.
