Entry 1
Remote starts begin by removing the trim panel under the dash. Most cars have have panels designed to be simply removed for access to wiring, however there are some cars that require quite a bit of work to gain access to this area.
Entry 2
After the dash panel is removed to gain access to the steering column area and wiring, we begin to "prep the brain." First, we look over the tech notes on this particular car to see which wires we will be working with, along with checking to verify if the wiring color codes are correctly labled. Mislabeled wiring, or incorrect color codes can create problems from the start, making the install process take longer. We test wiring before beginning to verify this.
After testing, we prepair the wiring connections at the remote start controller.
Entry 3
Once the control box is prepped and the wiring is organized, work in the car begins. We start under the hood in the Santa Fe by installing a hood pin. This is a safety device that does not allow the car to remote start when the hood is opened. Your mechanic will thank you later.
All wiring under the hood is wrapped in wire loom to keep it safe from the elements under the hood. In this case, the new wiring is tied to existing loom to keep wiring in the factory locations.
Entry 4
Now that the underhood wiring is complete, we begin under the dash. First we must locate the correct wiring in the various locations at the doors, steering column, BCM, and other places depending on the vehicle. The wiring on the control box and the security bypass adapter is now ready to be wired into the factory wiring. All of the wiring in the remote start is soldered. We solder in order the make the best connections. They will last much longer than simple crimmped or t-tapped connections.
Entry 5
Once the wiring is completed, we program the system to the functions of the car and for what optional functions we will be using. In this car, we programmed the run time for 15 minutes. The car will shut down after being remote started if you let it run for this amount of time. The parking lights will blink to indicate the car received a signal from the remote. Once the car is started, the parking lights will stay on until the car shuts down or until the driver takes over.
The antenns for the system is mounted at the highest point of the car in the front windshield. This will allow for greatest range.
Entry 6
The LCD remote in the system will indicate if the car started or not, whether the doors are locked or unlocked, the countdown timer of the remaining run time, as well as battery voltage and interior temperature.
The first picture has the standard screen showing the vehicle unlocked, in full range and the clock in the lower corner. The second picture shows the green back light illumination with the interior temperature indication in the lower corner of the remote.
The second remote is a one way that can be used as a spare.
